How can I take classes?

Five avenues can be used to take classes.

Online classes - These are available throughout the calendar year. We usually have three seasons for online courses that run throughout the year – spring, summer, and fall. These all have start and finish dates to help with scheduling.

Online classes can be completed in a couple of ways. We have them available through an internet connection (this is preferred) or jump drive format (this may not always be available). This second option makes the classes available “on demand” without an internet connection (which sometimes creates problems). There is an additional cost of $30 for a jump drive with the desired classes.

Members of Capitol Baptist Church who desire to get a certificate in Bible will be exempt from taking modules. Their certificate can be accepted through in-person classes and online and correspondence options.

Module classes – These are available throughout the calendar year. We usually offer between 2-3 modules every year. The modules cannot be live-streamed but may be taken online when they become available (usually the following semester).

Correspondence classes – These classes are a limited basis for undergraduate degrees but can be used more for graduate-level degrees. They are directed studies in specific theological areas requiring extensive reading and analysis.

In-Person classes – Capitol Baptist Church hosts in-person courses in the spring and fall of each calendar year. Contact us for specific details of classes offered and the calendar dates for each semester.

Course Transfer – This is available on a limited basis. Classes must be approved ahead of time, and either one of the seminary staff or adjunct professors will ensure enough academic requirements and alignment in theology for acceptance. Please understand that some core classes may not be accepted from an institute, college, or seminary.

What is a student advisor?

An advisor will be assigned to students when they enroll in the seminary. This Dean will assist in helping the students to enroll in the proper program and work with them through the completion process.

The Dean will try to communicate with each student twice a semester on their progress and provide clarification for course completion.

Are there student requirements?

A student will only be allowed to complete some of the classes online, only 80% of the total courses. There will be allowances for students who live overseas.

Independent Baptist Seminary reserves the right to accept or deny any student into the seminary.

A student must agree to a doctrinal statement.

A student must have references from a pastor or fellow laborer in ministry.

A student must agree to faithful attendance at an independent Baptist church.

Students are required to attend graduation week when receiving their diplomas.

A student may ask for ministry credit which may apply to specific degree programs. There must be at least ten years of ministry experience to be eligible for this credit. Also, a student must be over 35 to qualify for ministry credit. Proper forms and experience verification will be required to gain class credit.

We have the right to deny admittance to Independent Baptist Seminary, and we have the right to expel at our discretion.
